Day 6 - retro

I decided to go a bit old school for dinner, which was a dish that I've eaten before, but I've never actually made. Should make my Dad proud with this one...SOS. I did have to "foo-foo" it up a wee bit and added just a tiny amount of truffle oil at the end. Sorry Dad ;-)

It was really simple.

  1. Brown bacon and set aside to drain
  2. Reserve about 2-3 tablespoons of the bacon fat in the pan and add about a tablespoon of olive oil.
  3. Add in about 3-4 tablespoons of flour (no I didn't use whole wheat this time, used regular white for semi-authenticity)
  4. Cook the flour for about 5 minutes
  5. Add in approximately 2 cups of milk and whisk to combine
  6. Add in the cooked bacon pieces, stir, let simmer for just a minute or two. I added in about a teaspoon of truffle oil at this point. Be careful though, it's pretty strong stuff. So start out with a little bit and then add more as necessary
  7. Toast some wholegrain bread
  8. Ladle on the sauce and stuff your face
:-D
